Rough copy of music video

This is the rough cut of my music video, which has made me realise that there are a few things which need to be changed in order to make this music video to the best of my ability. Some of the settings for the colours need to be improved as while filming at Ruislip Lido the lighting was very bright which caused my video to look too bright at some places. Furthermore some of the shots need to also be shortened for my music video to be a bit shorter and for me to be able to fit another part at the end in order to end my music video successfully.

Additionally, this means that it will then have three parts to it, the beginning, the middle part where it can either be a disruption or a story telling, and the end where everything either goes back to normal or the problem is sorted.

Unfortunately I was unable to film the last part of my music video which involves filming on stage where the male is singing with the spotlight on him and then the girl walks in so the camera moves on to her with the spotlight on her and as the song is near to finishing they both get together and touch hands. This last part will however be added during Christmas holidays as I have planned to film then and add that to my video and edit it perfectly.

Risk Assessment and Health and Safety Evidence

This is the Risk Assessment sheet and it involves some of the risks that could occur while filming and the ways to minimise the risks. This helped me as I was able to now be more aware of the risks that could happen while filming however now I am more cautious and aware of those risks, therefore we will try and avoid those problems while filming my music video.

Location Release

 

This document is my film location release contract. I had to make this in order to confirm the agreement between the producers and the owners of Ruislip Lido, to make available to the producers the following premises "Ruislip Lido Woods", Reservoir Road, HA4 7TY, London.

 

By completing this document it gives me the right to film my music video there without any problems. 

Actors Auditions

Deciding who I wanted to use in my music video as my main actor was very difficult. I had to make sure that they would be reliable and able to attend the filming sessions whenever I needed to. On the other hand I also needed to make sure that the person in my music video knew what they were doing and did not have to be told about everything and every move.

Luckily I made the right decision by picking one of my friends Katie Norris as she is a very confident student and knows her stuff. Furthermore, Katie is a reliable person, and even though she has a lot of her work to complete she managed to stay focused while acting for my video and attend every session. Therefore, as I was sure about Katie being the right actor for my music video I did not hold any auditions as I felt it was pointless and time consuming.

Props List

This is my props list and it has images of the types of clothing and make up I will be needing for my music video. Additionally, it also highlights that my rock music video will not only follow most rock music video conventions however it also breaks some rules as it will be very simple. This has been shown through this Prezi as I do not need many props.

Audience Feedback 

Positive feedback: 

• High quality visuals
• The subplot of the artist picking up the lyrics is giving the music video some more thought and challenging the audience's thoughts. 
• Mise en scene and the costume have been well thought and they suit the conventions of rock music.
• Grasping storyline and fits in well with the lyrics.
• Location and lyrics fit in well together.
• The pace of the cuts of the shots complements the pace of the song.

Improvements:

• The lighting on some shots needs to be improved as the sun is too bright and directly on the camera lens.
• Some of the shots need to be changed and the ending needs to be included in the video. 

Filming/Editing schedule

This is my filming and editing schedule and it highlights the dates when I will be recording my music video. It helps me be more planned and keep everything up to date in order not to be behind with any work.

Location Recce

This location recce provides information about the location in which I filmed at. It also includes some pictures which gives a clear visual image of what my music video may end up like. Furthermore, doing this helped me highlight some key advantages of the location and some problems I may have faced or will face if I will film there again. This together made me recognize the key benefits and drawbacks of my location, and if I should try and film at a different place as well.

This is a video of my audience feedback I received before filming my video as I wanted to know people's views on my idea first in order to make some changes if needed before filming. This audience feedback has helped me decide what changes I wanted to make to my initial idea for my music video, however it also made me realize that some of the ideas I had before were not applicable to my story line so therefore need to be changed.

Editing Softwares

I have completed this Prezi in order to highlight which softwares I will be using in order to complete the editing part of my music video and in order to complete my digipack. This has helped me realise which programmes I have skills to use and which ones I lack in skills in order to make my music video and digipack look as professional as possible. Having received some audience feedback I realised that Adobe Premiere Pro will be the best programme in order for me to use to edit my music video.

Photographs of potential locations

Having decided where I want to film my music video made me come to a conclusion that filming in the rain when there are sad lyrics may be a good idea. This is because it will add to the mood of the song and it will engage the audience more, so therefore doing this Prezi has massively helped me decided on where I want to film and what.

Artist Styling/Costume Planning

I have done a Prezi in order to portray the costumes my artist will wear for the music video I am creating. Even though I have decided for my artist to wear vintage clothing, in many areas she will also wear black as it is a convention of rock music videos. On the other hand I am trying to make this music video look as unique as possible so therefore vintage clothing will be a priority. Furthermore, doing this has helped me figure out very carefully what scenes I want my artist to wear what costume, for example if it is a sad scene she will not be wearing a vintage flowery dress, but instead she will have black boots and a black dress on to also portray to the audience the mood, in order for them to engage more with the music video.

Analysis of Kodaline "All I Want" Lyrics

 

I have done an analysis of the lyrics for the song I am using for my music video and this has helped me massively as now I have a better insight into what the lyrics really mean. This highlights that I am now able to make my music video closely relate to the lyrics as I have taken somet ime to analyse them thoroughly. 

Analysis of Kodaline - All I want initial video

This music video is essentially a short story that fits around the message of the song. The video starts before the song starts to play which allows a short introduction to the story about to be told, it denotes a young woman photocopying, giving us the setting of the video. We then hear her scream and begin to laugh, something you would not normally associate together. The music begins as we see the cause of her scream, a work colleague ( we can see this from the costume, a suit) however he has some facial deformities. His expression as another colleague makes out he is some kind of monster shows he is upset and sets up the rest of the video.

As the music goes on the video cuts between shots of him merely working, however it focuses in and out of the foreground and background always revealing a person watching him in disgust.
The first time we see him smile is when he is watching the young woman from the beginning of the video, the video quick cuts between POV shots of her accompanying the lyrics "I lay in tears in bed all night, alone without you by my side" The song explains his feelings for the woman and this has an effect on the audience as we know she isn't interested.
When he goes home the mise en scene is dark, hiding his face, this makes him look like any other person and connotes that he is himself when he is alone. The video cuts between clips of him and his dog, showing him happy, then as he sits down we hear "You brought out the best in me" It suggests that he does have someone that loves him, however it saddens the audience as we realise it is in fact only his dog.
The lyrics "Our love was made for movie screens" is accompanied by the him holding a photograph of himself as a baby with what we can assume is his mother overlooking him with a large smile on her face. This is an over the shoulder shot so that even through the way he is sitting as he looks at the photograph we can see he is upset and longs for this love again.
The turning point of the video comes during the bridge of the song, the music builds up as the man builds up the courage to save the woman from some men harassing her. He begins to fight them as the music reaches it's loudest and most intense point. This emphasises how important this moment is and how much courage it took him to do it.
The very end of the video reveals a message, as the woman accepts him asking him to call her, it shows that the way people look isn't everything.

Permission to use song

In order to gain permission for me to use Kodaline's song ' All I Want ' I decided to email their record label. I wrote a polite message, telling them who I am and what school I attend followed by the reason why I wanted to use their song. I ended the email in a professional way, and it highlights that I have considered that permission needs to be taken and I am aware of copyright issues.
